Beverly Montgomery: Oct. 2003

Beverly Diehl Montgomery has pursued her love for art through painting and drawing since early childhood. Born in the small community of Mulhall, Oklahoma, she attended Oklahoma State University immediately after high school. The following years were spent studying with various artists and raising two boys. In her mid-forties she returned to college receiving degrees from Richland College in Dallas, a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Dallas and her Master of Fine Arts from Texas Womens University at Denton, Texas. Beverly is a signature member of Southwestern Watercolor Society in Dallas, Artist and Craftsmans and currently serves as President of the Ardmore Best of Show Awards in watercolor from shows held in the
Southwestern part of the United States.

Beverly studied with numerous renowned artists while attending workshops held throughout Europe, North America and Mexico. Her instructors have included Robert E. Wood, Ray Froman, Bud Biggs and Rob Erdle. Although her painting remains paramount, she has become an enthusiastic teacher and seems to be constantly challenged by new experiences and subject matter. She enjoys many mediums, oil, watercolor, acrylic and colored drawing pens.

She has been teaching in the Studios at the Goddard Center in Ardmore, Oklahoma since 1986. In the summer, she teaches children’s workshops on drawing and painting. Also, she enjoys teaching adults and believes that inspiring others also helps her own work. She likes to sketch on location and complete the painting in the studio or do another one from the sketch. To be an artist, she says, “You must view the work a little differently. You must see it in the format of color, space, light, form and texture.”
