Pama Monfries: Jan. 2004
January 6th, 2004
Pama Monfries will speak at the January 6 meeting at 7pm in the Lewisville Visual Art League Center. Her subject is “Contacting Your Inner Creativity.” Pama, of Coppell, Texas, believes everyone is born with varying amounts of creativity. Some people are allowed to nurture it and are happy their entire lives by continually growing creatively.
Others lose contact with their inner creative nature when they are very young. Her adult classes, both private and group, help people rediscover that inner part. Some students take one of the classes and go on to piano, clay, jewelry making, drawing lessons, etc. “You must have fun with your art !” she proclaims, “whatever it is, that is most important.”
Pama was a contract art director for American Airlines and on 9/11 was laid off. She’s had a paint brush in her hand almost every day since then. Although she’s always painted, instead of a computer to guide her, she relies on her God-given talent to call the shots, whether it be portraits, murals, life painting or teaching. Even though her future plans are indefinite, she knows she’ll be painting portraits when she’s 80.
Pama Monfries majored in Graphic Design and Fashion Illustration. Gardening, soccer and spending time with family and friends are her favorite hobbies. She and Jim have two children majoring in art at UT Austin and a 12 year old at home who enjoys acting.
