Marie Renfro: May 2005

May 4th, 2004

Color and creativity best describe Marie Renfro’s paintings in oil or acrylic. A very versatile artist, Marie enjoys using various media to express her emotional response to an idea or subject. An intuitive approach to painting helps her find compositions and subjects she might otherwise never consider. She has painted for 40 years and through the years has tried many new surfaces and ideas. Mixing collage with paint is the favorite mode of her current work. Marie’s work is based on strong color, texture, and design. She begins a painting with wet paper and lets the paint and the reaction of the water give her stimulus for beginning the composition and design. It is very exciting to see a painting start to emerge under her skillful hands. She will be using Golden Liquid Acrylics for her demonstration. She will be giving you ideas for collage materials as well as methods to manipulate the paint.

Marie has just retired from teaching for 8 years at Collin County Community College where she taught Watercolor and Mixed Media. Through the years she also taught Painting and Design.

Marie and 7 other women artists founded and ran Gallery VIII in West Plano for 21 years and they closed the Gallery in June of 2003.
