Vista Ridge Mall Exhibit Opportunity

The Vista Ridge Mall is giving us an opportunity to exhibit our paintings and to bring awareness to the public about our art league. We will be exhibiting the weekend of June 26 and 27. There would probably be two shifts on Saturday and one shift on Sunday. We will have our paintings or photographs on easels. We cannot sell our items, but we can hand out our business cards and also hand out promotional material on the art league. We would like to have at least 4 people during the shifts, so that there would always be someone around when a break is needed. If you are interested, and I hope you will be, please contact R’lene at 972-874-3919 or edwwin@msn.com no later than May 24th so that a schedule can be set up.

Western Week is Back!

Western Week is coming back on September 6, the weekend before labor day. This is a long tradition of old town Lewisville to have booths with arts and crafts and activities with a western theme. Individual artists may want to set up their own booth or VAL may have a group booth. Please contact Elaine at 972-221-2398 or rln111@airmail.net if you are interested.

Board Briefs

John Ramirez volunteered to fill one of the Director chairs on the Board, and Misty Foster agreed to serve as Secretary. The Board voted and the motion passed. Plans for summer classes were discussed. Misty has 5 weeks of classes scheduled. Two others have expressed interest in teaching classes and will be contacted this week. John Ramirez will work on making easels and a sink installation for classes and open painting sessions.

Discussion was held for ideas on how to generate interest and involvement in classes and the VAL activities, including evaluation of an initiation of an advertising program using newspapers and or direct mailing. Additional suggestions were: Contacting PTA organizations, Flyers. Day Cares, Cooperation with nearby businesses, giving away artist prints, gallery hours later in the day/weekends.

Plans for a working classroom were discussed and reviewed. Board members discussed the benefit of opening the VAL center to members who would like to work on their art, other than regular gallery hours. The Board discussed and agreed on sending a survey out to the VAL membership, The next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 8.
