Western Days are back in Lewisville!

August 1, 2004

12:12 am

Lewisville will celebrate Western Days all day long on Saturday, September 4 with a rodeo on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Saturday will have many activities including outdoor entertainment, gun fights, roping and more fun.

The church facility previously Temple Baptist will be used for a business expo and other exhibits that will include a quilt show and VAL member’s artwork. The expo center will be open that day from 9 am until 6 pm. We will need to schedule shifts of people to be there during that time to talk about our art and VAL.

The show will be installed the previous Friday afternoon and evening. If you are interested in participating, please contact Elaine at 972-221-2398 or John Aggus at 972-317-8882.

Visual Art League Art Center 2004 Holiday Sale & Exhibit

We are planning to have the art center full of member’s work from the second week in November to just before Christmas, with items in mind for holiday giving. We hope to have not only paintings, but also unframed work, prints, cards, wood boxes and tables, fabric creations, jewelry and other artistic items ready for the holidays. So far we have 10 artists signed up. We are looking for a coordinator for this group to set schedules, guide presentation of pieces, and establish publicity goals. If you would like to help out in this way, please contact Elaine Nienkamp at 972-221-2398.

Dallas School of Music Fall Art Festival

Remember, the Dallas School of Music’s Fall Art Festival begins Saturday, September 11. They will be installing the art September 7-10 and the work will hang for two full months. So, select 1 or more pieces that you will not need available until after November 14.

This will be a great opportunity for our artists’ work to be seen by a large group of people. Artwork and commissions do sell during the festival. Below is an update from Eugene Cantera at the Dallas School of Music. If you are interested in showing, please email me the information he is asking for at the bottom of his update.

The posters have been designed and printed and will be showing up in the Carrollton/ Plano area this next week. I hope you get to see them, Becky has done a great job in their design.

We had a little press through Nancy Churnin’s blurb in the Dallas Morning News yesterday about Dan Hale and Matthew LaBrot. There will be another round of releases going out next week to local papers, radio and TV. I am still working with channel 8 to get a crew out here on Friday the 10th to cover our installation.

The Freddie Jones group will be performing to open the festival at 3 PM. Freddie is a great jazz trumpeter and longtime friend of DSM. There will be one other group playing during the event as well as DSM faculty performances later in the afternoon. Borders will also be on hand with books and music for sale.

Julio Suarez of KidArt has planned an interactive mural that will depict people listening to and reacting to music and art. We are hopeful that once completed, the piece can be framed and hung on the back wall of the stage in our recital hall.

REMEMBER: We will be accepting artwork from Tuesday September 7 through Friday the 10th. We will create the cards for each piece but would like to have the following information e-mailed in advance if possible:

Artist name, brief bio and contact numberPiece titles, media and prices if applicable

We are looking forward to a nice event – stay tuned for updates!
