Notes from the Board Meeting

The Board recently voted to adopt a defined policy for sales of artworks at the gallery. It was proposed that sitters would be authorized to accept 20% deposits from interested buyers, the piece would be marked ‘sold’, and would remain on display until the end of the show. Current policy has been to give the artist’s contact information to potential customers, so that sales are handled privately, but we anticipate that being able to close a sale immediately will improve follow up.

We are also in the process of planning a new event for next spring- “Art Walk” on the sidewalks of Old Town Lewisville. Pat Leggett will be the chair for this effort, and details will be coming, so stay tuned.

The Lewisville Lake Symphony will be having their annual fundraiser “Soiree” on Oct 8 at the Grotto restaurant in Highland Village. They are recruiting artworks to be auctioned off, and will do publicity on their website for these donations. Please contact Pat Leggett for details on how you can support this group of musical artists.

New Member Focus: Vonda Seeliger

Hello Everyone! I am a new member to VAL. My name is Vonda Seeliger. I am originally from Houston but lived the last nine years in Austin. I recently moved to Lewisville to get closer to my sister, brother and mom and dad whom all live near the Dallas area.

In 1991 I received a BFA degree from The University of Houston with a major in Photography and minor in Art History. I have worked as a photographer, graphic designer, and computer imaging artist.
In 1998 I received an All-Level Art Teacher Certification at The University of Texas at Austin. I then taught art in Round Rock ISD. Recently, I accepted a position to teach art this Fall at Evans Middle School in McKinney ISD.

I create art through photography, painting and drawing. My subjects include mostly landscapes and birds. My favorite is Cockatiels since I have some for pets. Welcome Vonda!

Lewisville State Bank Exhibit Opportunity

VAL members may exhibit 4 pieces in the bank lobby, on easels provided by VAL. Rotations are for 6 weeks per artist. Business cards may be placed in the attached holders. If the pieces are for sale, it is permissible to place a small price indication on the piece. Installation and takedown dates must be observed.

The installing artist must have their work removed by 10:30am the day their rotation is complete, and the new artist should be ready to install the same day. Upon installation, the artist must provide a list of the paintings by name, size, media and title to the bank liaison, Linda Hall, if they want insurance coverage during the display.

If you are interested in participating, please contact Darla Bostick at 940 320 5660 or email her at darla6000@yahoo.com, with “bank exhibits” in the subject line. This is a terrific opportunity for members to show their work, and we thank Darla for organizing it!
