Artist Opportunity!

October 15, 2011 to October 16, 2011

Artist Opportunity: Craft/Art Vendors wanted at Horse Show

Hello, VAL Artists!

Many of you know me from the festivals I do in Denton and I was asked to pass this information along to artist and crafts vendors who might be interested in setting up at a horse show on Oct. 15-16.

I realize it is a just a short time away, so please see the information below if you are interested. I think the price would be reasonable, but I wasn’t given that detail so you can contact the person below for more. And, if you know of anyone else who might be interested, I am sure they wouldn’t mind if you passed it along.

The event is at Green Valley Ranch on Saturday October 15 & 16th. The ranch is having a very large horse sale, 450+ people. Green Valley Ranch is on FM 428 north of the Denton Waterpark about 5 miles.

If interested, Mandy McCutcheon is organizing the vendors and Mandy can be reached at (940) 453-7543 and her email is mcutch1@aol.com.

Thanks and hope you are having a great Fall!
Christine Gossett

NOTE: This opportunity is not sponsored by VAL. We are only passing this information on as a note of interested to our members.

Darla Bostick Demo

Darla Bostick – a Demonstration with Watercolor and Tissue Paper

October 11, 2011 – 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Darla Bostick will give a demonstration with Watercolor and Tissue Paper on Tuesday evening, October 11 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

Darla is a Denton, TX resident and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Texas Tech University in 1976. She has been involved in the arts since that time as an art educator in Des Moines, Iowa, Houston, and Denton, Texas.

In her personal work she finds the greatest challenge and satisfaction in watercolors and photography. Love of travel is evidenced primarily in her photographic images which later inspire paintings in watercolor with mixed media. Since painting on site is not always convenient when traveling, Darla began using the camera as a sketchbook to capture the colors of a region, its architecture, unique landscapes and the people’s daily lives. She has traveled to about 50 countries at last count. http://www.darlabostick.com

2nd Annual Photography Show “Drop-Off”

August 13, 2011 2:00 pm to August 14, 2011 12:00 pm

All VAL Photographers,

Our second annual photography show is getting closer! The Drop off dates for Through the Looking Glass: Abstract Impressionism and Surrealism in Photography are going to be Saturday, August 13 from 2 to 8pm and on Sunday, August 14 from 9am -12pm. These dates and times are firm due to the fact that the show will be hung that Sunday evening and all of the volunteers will be running on a tight schedule. I look forward to seeing all of the amazing images that I know you are all creating! I have included definitions of some terms that I have gotten some questions about, and a very interesting article that is sure to get your creative juices flowing. Please follow this link to find some invaluable info on surrealism in photography. You can also find a wealth of images to inspire you simply by google image searching abstract photography or surrealism in photography.

Some artists that might inspire you are:

Remember – all submitted images must fall into the following categories.

Abstract

-adjective

  1. thought of apart from concrete realities, specific objects, or actual instances: an abstract idea.
  2. expressing a quality or characteristic apart from any specific object or instance, as justice, poverty and speed.
  3. theoretical; not applied or practical: abstract science.

Impressionism

  1. a movement in French painting, developed in the 1870s chiefly by Monet, Renoir, Pissarro, and Sisley, having the aim of objectively recording experience by a system of fleeting impressions, especially of natural light effects
  2. the technique in art, literature, or music of conveying experience by capturing fleeting impressions of reality or of mood

Surrealism

  1. - n ( sometimes capital ) a movement in art and literature in the 1920s, which developed especially from DADA, characterized by the evocative juxtaposition of incongruous images in order to include unconscious and dream elements

Thanks, Everyone and once again I can’t wait to see what you are creating for this show! Any questions, please feel free to contact me.
