The VAL “Our Town” plein air workshop will held this saturday, December 10 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm in the courtyard at The MCL Grand Arts Center. The MCL Grand is located at 100 North Charles Street between Main Street and Church Street in old town Lewisville.

This is a FREE workshop, offered to all VAL members.

• The workshop will have an open format.
• Artists walking around town and capturing their impressions of the historic old town Lewisville through sketches, photographs, etc.
• Bring your own materials.
• The Main Street and surrounding areas of this beautiful Texas town with the crisp fall morning light should offer interesting as well as challenging compositions for cityscapes.
• VAL plen-air artist member, Murthy Mantha will be available through-out to the session to offer suggestions and advice.
• The art work produced during this workshop will be displayed in a val member show at MCL Grand starting on January 7, 2012.
• Please send an email to Murthy confirming your attendance to the workshop or for further details.
• If you cannot make it on 12/10, it is perfectly acceptable to come any time between now and December 10, take picture or do sketches or painting on location.
• These works including photographs will be eligible for “Our Town” plein air show on January 7th.

Plein Air Workshops

We had a few hard core plein air artists showed up on 11/12 taking pictures and painting and sketching on locations in downtown Lewsville.

Please plan to join us for another session on 12/10 Saturday from 10 to 1 P.M.

If you cannot make it on 12/10, it is perfectly acceptable to come any time between now and 12/10, take picture or do sketches or painting on location. These works including photographs will be eligible for show on Jan 7th.

Jan 7th Exhibition

The main theme is Plein Air (work created out of doors). This includes photographs, and drawing and paintings made in any media on location in Lewisville.

If you are not an outdoor painter, and prefer the comfort of your own studio, art work executed in studios is also acceptable as long as the Theme is Lewsiville and is based on your own photographs or sketches.

Group Art Project

The following five VAL members signed up to create panels for this large painting: Wanda, Chuck, Paula, Catherine, Murthy, and Valerie. Want to get in on the fun and help? As we still need two more artists, contact Murthy Mantha.

Murtha, coordinator of this project, needs all of the photographers who wish to have their photo considered for the subject matter of this project to submit their work no later than 12/10/2011 to him.

One thing to keep in mind about the photograph is that when it is divided up into eight pieces, two rows and four columns, each piece should look reasonable enough to stand on its own as a separate painting.

Painting can be done in Oils or Acrylics.

We need eight canvases 30 x 30 size. Murthy is planning to purchase the panels, but each participant will need to pick up their share of the cost. If you know where we might be able to get something inexpensive, please let Murthy know.

Dates: 11/12 Saturday 10 AM to 1 PM, 12/10 Saturday 10 AM to 1 PM

Place: Lewisville Downtown area. Meet at the MCL Grand Courtyard to get started.

Cost: Free for all VAL Members.

Here is a great opportunity for a group of artists to come together and paint a landscape/cityscape of the Old Town Lewisville to be exhibited at the VAL member show at MCL Grand starting on Jan 7, 2012.

We are looking for Nine artists on a first come first serve basis to participate in this group activity. Only those artists who are willing and able to finish the art work in time for display may sign up for this group project.

Each artist will paint on a canvas panel of 24″ x 24″ size.

The subject will be a photograph selected randomly from the Plen-Air workshops in November/December.

The selected photograph will be distributed to all participating artists as soon it becomes available no later than 12/15/2011. The photographer of the selected photograph should be willing to release a written consent for use of their photograph for the group art project.

The finished canvas will be brought by the artist for the in take of the show on Jan 7, 2012.

The finished art work of the artists, along with the reference photograph will be in the show.

This should be a fun project to work on individually, yet come together as a group to produce a cohesive results. Given that this is a community volunteer project, we hope to keep the coordination to a minimum and spend our time on creating the art work.
