Thank You Quilt

Lakeside Arts Foundation unveiled a months-long original project, the recently completed “Thank You, Veterans” quilt at the American Heroes event on Saturday, November 12 at Five Star Complex, in The Colony.

This modern approach to a traditional art form was designed, produced, and funded by Lakeside Arts Foundation and pieced and quilted by Dizzy Busy Bees quilt club and Canyon Oaks quilt studio to honor veterans and active military for their service to our country. The project started on Veterans’ Day 2010 where 100 fabric squares were decorated with permanent markers by children and youth from The Colony and surrounding area during the American Heroes celebration last year. Afterwards, more than a dozen volunteers worked for several months on piecing together and quilting the Thank You quilt.

The designer of the project, Lakeside Arts Foundation president, Christi Martin said, “This beautiful project is a loving tribute to those who serve our country. We are grateful to all who contributed to this collaborative work of art and we hope the community will enjoy it take a moment to be grateful for our troops!” For more information on Lakeside Arts Foundation see www.lakesidearts.org.
