Open to all artists 18 years of age and over residing in the USA. Two-dimensional original works on paper or canvas that have not been previously shown in this competition are allowed. Works must have been completed within the past two years without instructor supervision and may not be copies of works by persons other than the artist. No computer generated, photographs or printed work will be accepted.
Boundary measurement of framed art shall not exceed 150 inches. Boundary measurement is determined by adding the horizontal and vertical measurements together. For example a 24×30 inch framed painting would equal 108 inch boundary. Oil, watercolor, acrylic, gouache, alkyd, tempera, mixed media, pastel, pencils and pen and ink are accepted media.
Works not meeting eligibility requirements or deemed inappropriate will be rejected.
The entry deadline has been extended until September 9th, and Juror for this event is Qiang Huang.
Qiang (pronounced Chong) comes from China. His interest in art was developed at an early age, and was strongly influenced by his uncle, a professional painter and art educator. Qiang has studied basic drawing and painting skills under his uncle’s guidance and won multiple awardsin school art shows.
After immigrating to America, Qiang began a career in science and technology but continued to be active in local art communities. To further develop his artistic skills, Qiang has studied with well-known artists like Miles Mathis, Scott Burdick, David Leffel, and Sherrie McGraw.
Qiang is most inspired by paintings of late 19th century artist such as John Singer Sargent, Nicolai Fechin, William Bouguereau, and Lawrence Alma- Tadema.
Qiang’s paintings are most often still life, portraiture, and figurative. His paintings show remarkable accuracy under lush brush strokes.
Qiang is a signature member of the Oil Painters of America. His paintings have shown at the 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 19th OPA National Juried Exhibitions.
